Our business has been established since 1984 when Tim & Janet McAvoy (Partners of the business) opened
T & J. J. McAvoy Gunsmiths on High Street in Standish. Tim McAvoy had previously worked in the gun trade from 1973 where he started with just a Saturday job & his interest & knowledge of guns went from strength to strength.
Along with their three daughters, Tim & Janet McAvoy have worked hard to grow the business & establish their well known name. Recent years has seen the business enter into the import / export of firearms & accessories & also wholesale & distributorship of a number of products.
The amount of stock we hold is immense, with over 1000 guns in stock at any one time, plus tens of thousands of accessories, and ammunition has meant that we have outgrown our store located on High Street in Standish. In November 2011 we opened the doors to our new store at 'The Dog & Cartridge' 33 School Lane in Standish. Our new store provides much more space than our previous store, improved display areas, changing facilities, Rijo Hot drinks vending machine, customer parking, air conditioning & much more!
We have six shop assistants; Tim, Janet, Amy, Hannah, Sally & Mike, plus two gunsmiths. Most of our gunsmithing & gun repair work is carried out on site, with the new store offering & bigger & better 'work room' so that we can offer the best service possible.
We look forward to welcoming our customers old & new & also look forward to the exciting changes & improvements that our move will provide.
